Bumpy Year in Baby Photography

For this week’s post we’re going to do a little bit of time traveling back to January 2019 and check in with beautiful little Nicole.  With the absolutely crazy year that 2020 has been my newborn photography business has been thrown into a bit of disarray.

I try and post pictures from my newborn sessions twice a month but the gap in sessions from Covid threw my Lightroom and Bridge upkeep into a tailspin.  On top of that I had a hard drive crash in early summer and when I restored all of my newborn photos to my new hard drive they were all out of order!  I had to go back and dig into the EXIF metadata in the pictures to re-assemble my shoots in the proper order.  Nightmare!  All that to say, when I finally was able to put all the photographs back in their proper order, I noticed I had forgotten to post little Nicole!  Bigger nightmare!

Of course, these little problems pale into comparison with the problems some families are having right now.  Some of my wedding photographer friends are having an absolute time of it.  People have been cancelling venues right and left and opting instead for smaller, backyard weddings and in many cases cancelling the photographers all together.  One great idea – not for my photographer friends – I’ve heard of is the bride and groom telling everyone to take their own photos with their iPhones and then pooling them together in one big file on Flickr after the wedding…. and people just ordering what they want!

But back to my newborn session of little Nicole… we were able to get some terrific shots of not just the baby, but also the parents with the baby.  Plus, I got to break out my peach teddy bear bonnet!  It’s a rare newborn prop that only gets trotted out for the most special of newborns.  Nicole was a dream to work with.  She slept through the entire session and allowed me to take my time and capture those perfect shots!  So hopefully Nicole has enjoyed her first year of life and she and her family are healthy and happy!
